The Committee on World Food Security (CFS) is an intergovernmental platform for all stakeholders to work together to ensure food security and nutrition for all people. CFS develops and endorses policy recommendations and guidance on a wide range of food security and nutrition topics. These are developed starting from scientific and evidence-based reports produced by the High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE) and/or through work supported technically by The Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), World Food Programme (WFP) and representatives of the CFS Advisory Group. CFS holds an annual Plenary session every October in FAO, Rome.

Committee on World Food Security 2015

The 42nd Session of CFS is from 11 – 14 October 2015 at FAO HQ in Rome. Highlights include a policy roundtable on “Water for Food Security and Nutrition” and the participation of Mrs Mary Robinson, the former President of Ireland and a member of the Elders group, as the keynote speaker for “Food Security and nutrition in the Post 2015 Development Agenda: Goals, Action and Outcomes”.

There will be an opportunity to discuss expectations of the contribution CFS can make to nutrition following the Second International Conference on Nutrition in 2014 and how CFS can contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals that will be endorsed this September. A presentation will be made on the State of Food Insecurity in the World (SOFI 2015) which focuses on performance towards meeting the Millennium Development Goals.

There will also be two Special Events – one on “building knowledge, skills and talent development of youth” and the other on “resilience building for sustainable food security and nutrition”. Read more>>

Committee on World Food Security (39th Session)

The Committee on World Food Security (CFS) is the United Nations’ forum for reviewing and following up on policies concerning world food security. It also examines issues which affect the world food situation.  It was established as a result of the food crisis of the 1970s, upon recommendation from the 1974 World Food Conference.

The 39th Session will take place in Rome.
