Farmers' Quotes: Message 1

Message 1: Now is the time to act. Farmers are experiencing the impacts of climate change and they need action from policymakers, NGOs, politicians and businesses if they are to adapt and to mitigate.

This section includes farmers’ quotes in support of key message 1. The quotes will be in text, sound or video format.

“There should be an immediate effort to address climate change, we can’t just wait to see what happens. Climate change has affected our yields, drained our food stocks, and is impacting the nutrition of children and people in rural areas. When our agricultural environment is being destroyed, our life faces a complete burden.”

Lani Eugenia, General Secretary of Puantani, Indonesian Women Farmers’ and Rural Women’s Organization

“The biggest challenge right now is climate change. The weather is changing even between seasons and within the season.”

Dyborn Chibonga, Chief Executive Officer of The National Smallholder Farmers’ Association of Malawi (NASFAM)

“As a farmer and a leader of a farm organisation, I really feel there is a crisis approaching. Our job is to feed the world and now of course we face the challenge of providing food security to an ever growing planet.”

Robert Carlson, President of the World Farmers Organisation

“Climate change threatens to reduce yields worldwide and there are also more and more mouths to feed around the world. This presents a rather urgent and unique challenge for the agriculture sector. We must enhance productivity to secure an adequate food supply, but in a sustainable manner so that we can have a successful food system for years to come.”

Ron Bonnett, President, Canadian Federation of Agriculture, and Member of the Board of the World Farmers Organisation
